Abstract:

The collection consists of personal and professional papers of Henry Clay Sturtevant; his wife, Lucy Johnson Sturtevant; her mother, Lucretia Abbott Johnson; and her father, Dollivar Johnson. Also inluded are papers of their son, Arthur F. Sturtevant; his second wife, Florence Baker Williams Sturtevant; and other family members. The collection spans the years 1826 to 1953.

Scope and Content:

The Henry Clay Sturtevant Family Papers, 1826-1953, contain marriage certificates and papers relating to Henry's service during the Civil War, his pension, and his business. The collection also includes papers, documents, correspondence, deeds of land, marriage records, and military records of the Sturtevant and Johnson families, such as a diary of Lucy Sturtevant and the will of Dollivar Johnson from 1884. Also included are various papers relating to Henry Clay's son, Arthur Sturtevant, and the Baker family of Ipswich, Massachusetts.
