- The Harris Family Papers, 1778-1929, contain papers related to the Harris, George, and Bartlett families of Warner, NH and Concord, NH. The majority of the paper relate to the Harris family, specifically Henry L. Harris (1840-1923). Henry Harris was a clerk in the John A. Harris shoe store at 202 South Main Street in Concord, NH. His journals began in 1857, in which he describes his work in the shoe store, his life, and his activities in both Warner and Concord. His journals provide detailed accounts of events in the two cities. Harris also writes about the Civil War including his enlistment and experiences as a member of the 18th New Hampshire Regiment of Volunteers during the last year of the Civil War. The collection has correspondence between Harris family members and relative John H. George, who was a prominent attorney and Democratic politician. Other items include family documents, deeds, and photographs. The collection also has a commission to Daniel George signed by James Madison dated January 12, 1813 and 18th century deeds to members of the Bartlett families.
