Letter from Sarah Hammond Grimes Smith to her sisters, Mary and Almira Grimes. Letter written April 12, 1861, from DeKalb, IL. Sarah is thrilled to have finally received a letter from her sisters, and urges them to write more often. Her health has improved, though she and the Dr. are not entirely well and she has been 'very unwell' for the past two months. She rejoices that her sisters' health has improved and hopes to see them before long, as another winter apart would be difficult for her to deal with. She wishes she could do some sewing for the family, She misses the family dreadfully, especially yhe children, but trusts in God. Her local congregation has suffered from internal fighting but it is being resolved. The minister has declined to stay with the Smiths due to his health, and Sarah worries he is not paid a living wage. The harvest has gone well. She passes on local happenings.
