- Letter from Sarah Hammond Grimes Smith to Almira Grimes. Letter written from DeKalb, IL, March 19, 1865. Sarah writes because she is so lonely, even though the Dr. does not like her to write on Sundays. She asks after the weather in Keene and the health of the family, of whom she has received troubling health updates. Sarah misses all the family, especially the children. She has been baking. The Dr. is being called to court. Sarah anticipates the war will be over soon and pleads with Almira to write her soon.
