Scope and Content:

This collection consists primarily of four bound notebooks kept between 1878 and 1925, plus a small amount of later material related to two individuals and several unidentified photographs. The notebooks document activities in the very early years of the operation of the Home, and so supplement the larger collection of records found in accession number 2010.059. Their titles accurately describe their contents: Inmates Visits: when residents left the premises, where they went, and when they returned. The list was kept from 1879 to 1887 and is followed by a few pages listing small items sold, perhaps in a shop on site, 1894-1895. Managers Visits: a dated list of visits by named members of the board of Managers. There are no reports of what they did or with whom they spoke on these visits. Miscellaneous Contributions: A list kept between 1898 and 1907 of gifts given by outsiders to residents of the home. Register of Applications: Between 1879 and 1916 this list was kept with information about each applicant: where she was from, who sponsored her, when she was admitted, and when she died. The earlier entries also include what was paid as an entrance fee and whether the person furnished her own room.
