Abstract:

The New Hampshire Bankers Association Records consist of a sampling of materials from the New Hampshire Bankers Association, the New Hampshire Association of Savings Banks and its previous iterations, and the Northern Bankers Association, from 1892 to 2008. Such materials include meeting minutes, meeting programs, publications, member directories, tax records, and photographs.

Scope and Content:

The New Hampshire Bankers Association Records consist of a sampling of materials from the New Hampshire Bankers Association, the New Hampshire Association of Savings Banks and its previous iterations, and the Northern Bankers Association from 1892 to 2008, providing an overview of the history of banking and banking associations in New Hampshire during the 20th century. Such materials include meeting minutes, meeting programs, publications, member directories, tax records, and photographs. The bulk of materials in this collection are meeting minutes for each association, and two publications: the New Hampshire Banker by the New Hampshire Bankers Association, 1965 to 1973, and The Granite State Savings Banker by the New Hampshire Association of Savings Banks, 1953 to 1979. While some types of materials are more complete than others in this collection, there is no full run of any specific type of document. For example, the New Hampshire Bankers Association includes meeting minutes from 1892 to 1967 and meeting programs from 1914 to 1986. The tax records in this collection are limited to questionnaires for various banks throughout the state, dating from 1927 to 1928. The New Hampshire Association of Savings Banks materials have been organized into one series with its previous iterations: the New Hampshire Savings Banks Association and the Savings Bank Association of New Hampshire. Materials related to the merger vote and merger itself of this association and the New Hampshire Bankers Association are in Series 1. Other materials found with the New Hampshire Association of Savings Banks records include reports on banks in the state, speeches, and newspaper clippings on interstate banking. The Northern Bankers Association is only represented by two volumes in this collection: a cash book dated from 1900 to 1923, and a record book dated from 1900 to 1920. The record book consists of meeting minutes and reports, as well as a few meeting programs. Joint meeting programs may be found with the New Hampshire Bankers Association materials. Another large portion of this collection are photographs, which remain largely unidentified. They include bank buildings in New Hampshire, meetings, events, and formal portraits. While a number of the images are dated, few identify which meeting or event the photograph is of, and most meeting and event photographs do not identify the people in the images. Due to this, photographs of all associations are organized together in Series 4.
