Register for the Summit House on Mount Washington dated from 1852 to 1853. The Summit House was built by Lucius M. Rosebrook, Nathan R. Perkins, and Joseph S. Hall. The first entry is for July 28, 1852. Each guest signed his or her name and listed his or her hometown. Some guests also made further notes, most of which describe travel up to the summit and others wrote short poems. One guest wrote an account of seeing the northern lights, or aurora borealis, on September 9, 1852. The last entry was made on August 11, 1853. Pencil drawings were made throughout the volume, with a few in the back depicting people and animals climbing up the mountain. Notable painter Albert Bierstadt signed the register.
