Letter from Harriet Dame at Camp Winfield Scott in New Yorktown, VA, to Anna Berry in Concord, NH, dated April 18, 1862. In the letter, Dame writes that she provided a full account of their travel to Camp Winfield Scott in a letter to Mrs. Shackford and that Berry should borrow that letter if she wants to hear more. She states they are now "down South in Dixie" and that they say there are nearly 200,000 troops in the vicinity. Dame states she can see nearly all of the camps and it is a "grand sight." She goes on to tell of the troops being called to line up for battle several times and that the batteries had fired all day and night. Dame notes there was a skirmish and that several of the Michigan 3rd were killed. She goes on to discuss the mail, recent orders, and setting up their new camp.
