- Letter from John P. Brown in Constantinople (Istanbul), Turkey, to Captain John Long of the US Steam Frigate Mississippi, dated August 26, 1851. In the letter, Brown relays the travel plans to liberate Mr. Kossuth and his companions on September 1st. He notes they will be transferred to the Mississippi from a steamer of the Sultan from Dardanelles, Turkey, where they will then travel to the United States.
