- Letter from Lajos Kossuth on the U.S. Steam Frigate Mississippi in the Bay of Gibralter to an unidentified recipient, possibly Captain John Long, dated October 13, 1851. In the letter, Kossuth inquires about allowing him a longer trip to England as the amount of time required to travel would make it impossible to meet their deadline to leave to the United States. He notes there is no other ship he would like to take to the United States than the Mississippi and therefore provides his travel options and possible return dates.
