- Letter from William B. Kinney in Turin, Italy, to Captain John Long on the U.S.S. Mississippi, dated September 19, 1851. In the letter, Kinney congratulates Long on the honor of conveying Kossuth and his companions to the United States. He tells of how the government of Sardinia sympathizes with the United States on this occasion, but due to political circumstances requests that the U.S.S. Mississippi will not land at any port in their jurisdiction.
