- Two copies of a letter from Lajos (Louis) Kossuth on the U.S. Steam Frigate Mississippi in the Bay of Gibraltar to Captain John Long, dated October 9, 1851. In the letter, Kossuth notes their original plan of allowing him to travel through France to England, meeting up with Long again twenty days from his depature. He notes that he has since been unallowed to travel through France and therefore provides two alternative scenarios that would allow him to continue his travels to England before setting off with Long to the United States.
