- Letter from Alvin Russell Davis to Eva May Norcross and the Norcross family, dated April 4, 1918. The letter is addressed from 'somewhere in France'. Alvin apologizes for not writing in some time; he has been on the front lines twice and was not able to send any letters. He does mind the trenches (except when it rains), as if they stay quiet the Germans do not 'start' anything. Alvin thinks the Germans do not want to fight. He and all the Keene boys have returned safely. He comments on the effect of the bombing on the French countryside and the ruined towers. Alvin also expresses gratitude for his Christmas presents and hopes the Norcross family is doing well. He looks forward to a shipment of maple sugar.
