- Scope and Content:
- Letter from Alvin Russell Davis to Bertha E. Stearns dated January 6, 1918. The letter is addressed from 'somewhere in France'. Alvin writes to apologize for not responding to earlier letters. He has been in the hospital with a bad cold and though he is feeling better, he still has a cough. He has also lost one of his 'wristers' and tells Bertha she could knit him another, though she does not have to. He hopes she will continue teaching school in Keene, rather than becoming a Red Cross Nurse, as this is 'no place' for her. Alvin describes the village he is living in, which is small with no sidewalks. It has been an early and unusually cold winter, and they 'all' feel the cold more than they did back home.
