- Letter from Mary Alice Douglas to Blanche Nutting. She writes to "Blanie" that she is sorry for the delay in writing her and how she has heard from everyone else but her but she has heard from the other girls that Blanche has been busy at the Castle and the business of the Drawbridge. She asks for Blanche to send her one and she is happy to send a check. She then explains why she did not return to the Castle. Her brother was in the Army and shipped off with the Rainbow Division, and her mother wanted her to stay which proved fortuitous because her father became very ill and is still in a weakend condition. They also recieved word that her brother died in France around Christmastime and "there is an awful emptyness in our home." She then discusses how she is now attending Purdue University and is pursuing sanitation so she can help the government and how the college is close enough she can go home on the weekends. She concludes that she has a lot of other letters to write and asks Blanche to write her soon and send her a copy of the Drawbridge. Letter is dated 1918 August 13.
