Clay starts the letter saying she is probably going to look to see who sent the letter and probably tear it up but he is in a new city by himself and feeling blue so he wanted to write to someone who knew him and that he knew. He goes on that since she has last written him they have had a mild winter and he has graduated from Holderness School and that he is trying to get into Dartmouth. He mentions after his commencement, he went to Boston with a friend with the last name os Lawrence. Afterwards he went to Portsmouth and found work at American Ex. Co. (maybe American Express Company) He enjoys the work and likes the boarding house that he is staying in. He one complaint is that there are no young people of the right sort but Lawrence will be arriving on Monday to work in the same city so his social life should improve upon his arrival. He then mentions the next day is Sunday and he plans on reading and sleeping since he does not get paid til Monday. He concludes the letter that his Aunt Grace is arriving at York on July 1st and the Sundays thereafter will be there under the watchful eye of his aunt and father. Letter is dated 1918 June 22.
