- Letter from Harriet Dame in Bladensburg, MD, to Anna D. Berry in Concord, NH, dated August 13, 1861. In the letter, Dame writes they have moved about five miles from their old camp, staying at a house with beautiful gardens. She goes on to describe their camp, stating they are with a regiment from Pennsylvania and two from Massachusetts. Dame continues the letter by discussing the owner's house, farm, and workers (including an Irish man and African Americans), and notes that Mr. Magill did not know the regiment was arriving until the day before. She tells of the trouble getting supplies, such as milk, and that a lot of the area is secessionist so they need to be careful where they buy their food or else they may also be poisoned. The stationary has colored letterhead depicting an American flag and a smoking cannon.
