Letter from Harriet Dame at Camp Sullivan in Washington, DC, to Anna Berry in Concord, NH, dated July 21, 1861. In the letter, Dame writes about the majority of the troop leaving last Tuesday; some feeble, some sick, and some cowards. She goes on to talk about the distress at hearing the cannons firing at the battle of Manassas (First Battle of Bull Run), knowing some of her friends could be wounded or suffering. She notes she will walk there tomorrow to see if she can help them. Dame continues writing about how long the cannons have been firing and what she knows about the fighting.
