- Scope and Content:
- Letter from Calvin M. Burbank to Sarah and Henry Gerrish, dated September 2, 1861 from Bladensburg, Maryland. The letter is addressed to West Yard, New Hampshire. Calvin is grateful for the letters he has received and apologizes for the disjointed nature of his own letters. He is in good health and spirits and, though he would prefer to live in peace, his preferences 'give way to the nobler impulses of the true patriot'. Calvin describes the food in camp and the camp Chaplain, whose company is grateful for, as 'the camp is a bad place for a young man to keep fast hold of his moral and religious principles'.
