- Scope and Content:
- Letter from Calvin M. Burbank to Henry H. Gerrish, dated September 3, 1861 from Bladesburg, Maryland. The letter is addressed to West Yard, New Hampshire. Calvin has not written earlier as he fears his letters would not be acceptable. The camp received fruit and New Hampshire donuts. He writes that the boys are 'not at all discouraged at our late defeat', though the sight of mangled bodies and the sounds of the wounded grate on the company. He and some others exchanged clothes for fresh fruit with African American fruit sellers on the side of the road.
