- Letter from Emily and Martha to their cousins Sarah, Mary, Almira, and Thomas Grimes. Letter written from Glover, VT, April 27th in an unknown year, likely before Sarah Hammond Grimes Smith's c. 1859 marriage to Dr. Dudley Smith. [Note: Emily mentions Leap Year preparations, which may mean this letter was written in 1847, 1851, or 1856.] Emily writes she is sorry to hear the Grimes family has more than their fair share of ill health. She wonders if it makes their hearts better to endure suffering, and if so fears her own is quite wicked. She urges them to take better care of their health by not exerting themselves too much. Her children are growing quickly. Emily asks if Thomas Grimes' children are preparing for Leap Year. She wishes she liked to write as much as she likes to receive letters. Martha writes she is disappointed the Grimes family does not appear to be planning to travel to Glover.
