Scope and Content:
Letter from Charles L. Brigham to his mother, dated October 15, 1863. In the letter, Charles thanks his mother for her letter and paper. He writes that some of the men in his regiment have been helping farmers with their harvests, but states "it thought to be degrading to a white man" to work on a farm with slaves [based on the context of the letter, it is unclear whether this is Charles' belief or that of the men in his regiment].
