Blood has been a surgeon in his battalion since March 1918 and has done such good work in the trenches and during attacks. He notes Blood is one of the bravest men he has ever known and is one of the best military surgeons. Hanson notes it is a shame Blood's talents are being wasted in the rear when good men are needed at the front.
