- Scope and Content:
- The Concord Steam Corporation Records document some aspects of the early years of the company, from 1938 to the mid-1950s, after which they trail off sharply. They consist of financial reports to the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission; worksheets and notes for rate setting; correspondence with customers and projected customers in the late 1930s to mid-1950s; planning notes, drawings, and worksheets for projects and for the company as a whole; blueprints and drawings of some steam connections, changes to company buildings, and plot plans for buildings to be added to service. The impact of World War II can be seen in negotiations with the Boston and Maine Railroad about the use of a railroad siding. The records contain very few photographs, no employee information, and little about the growth of downtown Concord except as revealed in the names and locations of customers and would-be customers. There is no documentation at all of the demise of the company, of its later years, or of decisions about the use and sourcing of the biomass fuel that was its hallmark at the end.
