- The State vs. Joseph LaPage Trial Records, 1876-1877, includes a scrapbook, compiled by Asa McFarland, containing newspaper clippings detailing LaPage's first trial in Concord, NH, which began on January 4, 1876 and concluded on January 13, 1876. McFarland also included a brief account of the second trial, but admits he did not provide detail for two reasons: "the evidence was not reported so fully as in the first trial" and "it is mostly a repetition, except that of several witnesses, who did not appear at the first trial." McFarland's scrapbook also contains a newspaper article entitled, "Sketch of Joseph LaPage. His Career of Crime in Canada, Vermont and New Hampshire. A Monster in Human Form." which provides background on LaPage and his crimes. The trial records also consist of two notebooks of handwritten court records for the second trial of LaPage. The second trial began in Concord, NH, on February 26, 1877 and concluded on March 8, 1877. The notebooks contain trial transcriptions of witnesses, as well as a list of jurors for the second trial. The author of these volumes is unknown.
