The research for Drawn to Art: a Nineteenth-Century American Dream is based on a collection of original documents, rare childhood art of the nineteenth century, and ephemera which is housed at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California. This collection, which documents her research for Drawn to Art: a Nineteenth-Century American Dream, is based on three children of the Cross family of Merrimack, New Hampshire, who pursued careers in art rather than pursuing the farming life of their forebears. In this study of the rise of American art, included is the influence of American artist Henry Herrick (1824-1906), and the development of formal art education at the Parker School in Quincy, Massachusetts by progressive educator Francis Wayland Parker and art education at the New Ipswich Academy in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. The Diana Korzenik Research Collection consists of 4 boxes of folders, 5 audio cassette tapes and an envelope of photographic negatives. Included are research notes, genealogical information, photographs, correspondence, copies of newspaper and magazine articles, reproduction of nineteenth century artwork and engravings, information on engraving techniques, and galleys and publication materials for the book Drawn to Art: a Nineteenth-Century American Dream. This collection of research materials were gathered from 1979 - 1987, and relate to art education in nineteenth century New Hampshire.
