This collection was assembled by historian David D. Draves during the research and writing of his book "Builder of Men: Life in C.C.C. Camps of New Hampshire". Through extensive research conducted over many years, Draves compiled documentation relating to the approximately 35 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps that operated throughout New Hampshire between 1933 and 1942, as well as broader materials concerning the history, administration, and legacy of the CCC program.\n \n The collection brings together a comprehensive body of research documenting one of the most influential New Deal programs in New Hampshire. The materials provide information on the establishment and operation of individual camps, the experiences of enrollees, conservation and public works projects, and the lasting impact of the CCC on the state's forests, parks, and communities. The collection also contains camp publications, government documents, newspaper accounts, statistical data, and research notes. Many of the items in this collection are photocopies.\n \n Audio cassette tapes of interviews done by Draves with former CCC enrollees were moved to the Audio/Visual Room and given the call number S 1995.067. The transcriptions of these recordings once had this call number, but have been moved to Series 4 of this collection (1996.137).
