The Portsmouth, NH, Banks Collection, 1824-1936, primarily contains materials relating to banks in Portsmouth, including the Piscataqua Bank, the First National Bank, and the Rockingham National Bank. Records include bank checks from these banks as well as one check from the First National Bank in Manchester, NH, and two from the Maine and New Hampshire Granite Corporation. Also included are photographs of the bank buildings and presidents of the Piscataqua Bank and First National Bank of Portsmouth, a booklet titled "Portsmouth in the Year 1824," a typed history of the First National Bank of Portsmouth, a Piscataqua Bank account book for the years 1833-1837, and a scrapbook of 19th and 20th century clippings about Portsmouth banks.
