In the letter, Charles states he has not received a letter from Sophia in some time and hopes one comes soon. He goes on to tell that it has been quiet lately and the 2nd New Hampshire Infantry had a little fighting on Tuesday and caught quite a few rebel prisoners, which would have been more if the general had not been drunk. Charles also discusses available food and men in the regiments; noting two from Amherst have recently died.
