Scope and Content:
Letter from Alvin Russel Davis to his mother, Addie Erwin, dated November 14, 1917. The letter is written from 'somewhere in France'. Alvin writes that he has received packages from home, including clothes and food, and hopes to receive more. As Thanksgiving approaches he especially wishes for fruit preserves or a fruit cake, and for a second sweater. He tells his mother she does not need to censor herself; only his letters are checked. Alvin hopes his father is able to find good employees, especially as he thinks he himself will be 'too lazy' to return to work after the war. He hopes to receive more letters and a book to give him something to read, as he cannot speak to the French. Although not on the front lines, at night he can hear the guns. He asks after the family and sends his love.
