The caption states, "RARE 19TH CENTURY BRIDGE, MODERN REPLACEMENT-Unique covered-truss wooden bridge which carries North Pembroke road over Soucook river, left is to be abandoned next spring. It will be replaced by reinforced concrete and steel girder span, shown under construction, right. City will preserve old bridge as rare example of early bridge construction, with parking and picnic areas nearby on section of road being discontinued. The wooden bridge is 50 feet long and 16 1/2 feet wide, was built in 1891 at a cost of $824. New bridge is 160 feet downstream from old span, will eliminate two sharp curves on hill, shown in background."
