Photographic print of Rev. Nathaniel Bouton's headstone at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, NH. The caption states, "He was the youngest child of William and Sarah Bouton who lived in Norwalk, Conn. He attended the public schools of his native town and was exceedingly precocious. At the age of nine years he was so proficient in the rudemenlary branches that he was frequently engaged by the teacher in instructing others. In the year 1815 special relegious services were held in Bridgeport at which he became deeply impressed and so on the morning of June 20, 1815, his sixteenth birthday he recolved to give himself to the service of God, and in 1818 he entered Yale, and graduated in the summer of 1820. The new Society, the First Congregational of Concord was formed after the town support of the ministry had ceased with the resignation of the Rev. Dr. McFarland, and the law of July, 1819, going into effect, relative changes were commenced in the disposition of the parsonage land, and the interest of the town in the old North Churc[h]. So the new Society, organized July 29, 1824, was composed the first year of two hundred and twenty-three taxable members. In the fall of 1824, the Rev. Nathaniel Bouton a licentiate from the Andover Theological Seminary, was invited to preach as a candidate. He preached his first sermon the last Sabbath in October, from the text, Luke x:42, and continued his services as a candidate seven weeks. On the 24th of December the Church gave him a unanimous call to settle in the ministry, and on the 30th of the same month the Society concurred with the Church by a unanimous vote. The call was accepted."
