In the early days it was an ornament to Concord. It extended along State street facing the state house. The brick ends of the building belonged to other owners. In the rear, fronting on Green street, stood several dwelling-houses. These houses were reached by private ways called North and South Lanes, they ran westerly from State to Green street, and under the arches of Call's Block. Capitol and Park streets then terminated at State street. The three story center part of the block was moved to Pine street number 35 (1959 site of Floyd Otto residence) destroyed by fire about 1952. The two brick ends were moved one to 18 Centre street and the other to 23 Montgomery street. The city government extended Capitol and Park streets thru to Green street at an outlay of Fifteen thousand dollars for land damages. (Appropriation 1883 $15,000 for streets)."
