Undated photographic print of the horse block outside of the Timothy Walker House at 276 North Main Street, Concord, NH. The caption states, "276 North Main Rev. Timothy Walker House Built in 1733 -- 1734 Horse--block This block was on the west side of the old meeting house, famous for its accommodations to the women in mounting and dismounting their horses. It consists of a large round flat stone, seven and a half feet in diameter, or about twenty-two feet in circumference, raised about four feet high, with steps. Tradition says it was erected at the instance of the good wives who rode on pillions, and that they agreed to pay a pound of butter apiece to defray the expense. This horse-block deserves to be celebrated, not only for the 'aid and comfort' it afforded to the elderly folks, but for the many glorious jumps off of it and sports around it, which the children have had for three generations. I believe it was understood condition in the sale of the meeting-house that the horse-block should remain forever. At a meeting of the Society, held on April 13th 1869, this horse-block was presented to Joseph B. Walker, as appears by the following vote in the clerk's record, viz.: 'Voted that we present the old Hose-Block to Mr. Jos. B. Walker.'"
