Undated photographic print of John H. Pearson's house at 4 Court Street in Concord, NH. The house was built in approximately 1880. A photocopy of the caption states, "Mr. Pearson had been in business since he was twenty-one years of age. He built the Penacook Flour Mills and was in the flour and grain business in Depot Square for years. He was the first man to bring flour to Concord in large quantities from the West. For years he was the largest stockholder in the Concord & Montreal Railroad. He was a Democrat all his life. In 1839 he married Mary Ann Butterfield; she died in 1879. After her death Mr. Pearson often visited the Gove house at 50 Pleasant street, site of the French Church to court the daughter of widow Jesse A. Gove. He was at first interested in the widow and they took her daughter along with them on their rides. Later his interest changed to the young daughter which he married. The newly weds took the widow to live with them in the house at 4 Court street. This marriage was in 1889. He retired from business 1898 but was president of the Mt. Washington Railroad. His widow married James M. Killen some time before 1906, Killen was asst. sec. of the New England Granite Company, he died February 3, 1908, and Jessie Gove Killen sold the house to William S. Rossiter, his widow sold the house to the Moose Club about 1940. In 1865 this lot was vacant, Father Barry desired it to locate his new Church. It was owned by a woman residing in Derry, New Hampshire. A visit of Father Barry to Derry convinced him that the lot was held at too high valuation to be available. Notice the early type of electric arc light and the water stand pipe used to fill the street sprinklers."
