- This collection consists of two letters from John W. Goodwin and an official copy certificate of Goodwin's service in the Civil War. Goodwin writes from the Steamship Atlantic in October and November 1861, discussing his wishes should he die in battle, what should be done with the house, and for his children. His second letter discusses the travel, disease on the ship, and when they might land. The certified military service record notes he was wounded on June 16, 1862 and died of his wounds on July 2, 1862.
