Letter from Sarah Hammond Grimes Smith to her sister Almira Grimes. Letter written November 14, 1861 from DeKalb, IL. Sarah writes to thank Almira for her long letter. Sarah and the Dr. want to go back to Keene for Thanksgiving, but are concerned about finances, especially should the war continue, though Sarah reports General McClellan believes the war will be short and desperate. Sarah has been keeping house. The Dr. is well, but busy, and sometimes wears his 'high heel shoes'. Sarah has been enjoying soup, though the Dr. does not, but the soup was too rich and she had to be treated with Morphine and she has returned to plain foods.
