Scope and Content:
Letter from John Grimes to his sister in Keene (not Mary Grimes). Letter written from Troy, NH, October 10, 1857. John writes that he had been planning to go to Keene the following day or week but cannot, as Mary Louisa's health is too poor. She has a bad cough and can 'cannot endure much'. He was not able to go to the cattle show but hopes he will be able to go to one in Westminster, VT, soon. The frost killed some of their vegetables. He asks after his siblings and encourages them to write more often.
