- Letter from Nancy, Thomas, amd Almira Grimes to Mary Grimes. Letter written from Keene, NH, September 29, 1855. Nancy writes Mary to tell her she misses her. The family went to the fair the week before. Nancy especially liked the horses. 'Mother' [likely Abigail Dwinell Grimes] and Nancy are making blue flannel shirts for pay. Nancy asks after Mrs. Marshall and Mary's diet. She says if Mary can send the carriage, she (Nancy) would be happy to attend Mary's graduation. Nancy's own school is starting in November under the supervision of Mr. Gardner C. Hill from Winchester. Thomas writes to tell Mary he misses her and to confirm Almira's upcoming visit to Mary. He compliments the weather. He tells Mary Dr. Smith has sold his 'situation'. Thomas asks Mary to tell Mrs. Marshall he cannot do without her cheese. Almira write Mary she is well and excited to visit and to confirm their travel plans. She worries she may not be able to go, as many in the family have colds.
