- Preprinted Standard Diary for 1885 kept by Armenia White of Concord, NH. The detailed, but brief, entries of her daily life, highlight her work with numerous societies, causes, and organizations, including the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Ladies Social Aid Society, Reform School, Orphan's Home, Benevolent Association, her church, the hospital, and women's suffrage. She also writes of her children (Annie, Ben, John, Minnie, Harriet, Lizzie, and Nat), their activities, visits, and particularly of her concern over Nat's [Nathaniel White Jr.'s] drinking. The entries also record the weather, her health, social calls, lectures, funerals, weddings, requests for financial assistance, her attendance at events such as Governor Currier's inauguration and the dedication of the White Memorial Church, and of her summer away from Concord. Throughout the diary Armenia writes often of her sadness and fatigue, and of how "every body wants help and I cant do every thing." She often visits the cemetery where her husband Nathaniel, who died in 1880, is buried. The diary ends on January 1, 1886, with a note that she is "grateful for what I have + for what I can do, as I live in the past life and presence of my husband." Various accounts are in the back of the diary.
