The collection also includes personal correspondence, notably two letters describing the illness and death of Nicholas Gilman in Philadelphia, PA, in 1814 from typhus fever. \n \n A variety of additional documents are included in this collection, such as a 1662 deed from Moses Gilman to John Folsom, the appointment of Nicholas Gilman as U.S. Senator, genealogical information, and George Washington's speech to the U.S. Senate on April 16, 1794. Of note are five documents relating to the purchase, education, and manumission of Andrew Dorsey, a 13-year-old enslaved boy, by Nicholas Gilman.
