Scope and Content:
The Loveren/Lovering Family Papers is a small collection of assorted papers from this Deering, NH, farming family dating from 1787 to 1848, and 1939. Spelled various ways throughout these papers - Loverin, Lovering, Loveren, and Loverein - the bulk of the materials are promissory notes and receipts, most related to Hilliard Loveren, as well as deeds for land in Deering, Weare, Francestown, and Hopkinton, NH. The family members represented in these deeds include Hilliard, his father Reuben, and his uncle Ebenezer. Other materials from Hilliard include two military appointments for his service with the 26th Regiment of the New Hampshire Militia, his selection for serving on the grand jury at the Amherst Court of Common Pleas, and a document on a court case (Tewksbury v. Boyington) in which he was trustee. A few Deering town records in this collection include a 1788 list of the grain tax, a 1792 receipt for the school tax, and an 1844 list of legal town voters. Undated family genealogy, a medicine recipe, and a 1939 newspaper article on the Deering Congregational Church make up the rest of the collection.
