Scope and Content:
The John H. Bartlett (1869-1952) genealogies and estate papers consists of two volumes of genealogy by Bartlett's wife, Agnes P. Bartlett. These volumes, written in lined account books, cover dozens of family names with a focus on the Bartletts and how these other families connect to the Bartlett family. At the end of each family section is a list providing the line of descent from that family through to her son, Calvin P. Bartlett. Each volume contains an index in the front as well as a variety of other materials inserted in the pages. These include photographs of people, postcards of houses, stereographs, and newspaper clippings on specific people, families, or obituaries. Some of the clippings were written by Governor John H. Bartlett. Though the volumes are undated, a few of these additional documents date from 1873 to 1939. Also included is one original notice of a town meeting dated 1753. Throughout the volumes are references to other volumes (1 through 4) and pages in which each family name's research continues. This collection consists of only volumes 1 and 2. Volume 1 is 549 pages; Volume 2 is 473 pages. Approximately a quarter of the pages in each volume are blank. A folder of estate papers is included in this collection, containing documents from 1933 to 1953 in relation to John H. Bartlett's estate, the inheritance tax payment by Calvin, and papers (deeds, titles, etc.) relating to a property in Washington, DC, including the stipulations on who can and who cannot live there.
