Letter from Frederic A. Adams to his granddaughter, Rebecca, dated October 21, 1887. In the letter, Adams tells the story of a man who went out to hunt with his dog and got lost. He notes they were too weak to continue after walking all day and had to rest, then continued searching for people the next day. Adams instructs her Papa to give her the little box, a birthday gift, which would have prevented the man and his dog from getting lost if they had one.
