- 2 boxes, 8 glass plate negatives, and 5 oversize items
- Scope and Content:
- The small number of primary materials in this collection should be used in conjunction with the larger group of Aiken Family Papers, 2009.014. These include photographs of and a guest book for the Aiken home ("Aiken Manor") on Webster Lake in Franklin, a map of the family's real estate holdings there, glass plate negatives of a log cabin (location unspecified), a letter he wrote his future wife and some of his estate papers. He had materials that had belonged to other Aiken family members: an account book of his ancestor, Herrick Aiken, posters about his father Jonas Aiken's land in Minnesota. Secondary materials relate to the history of the Cog Railway on Mount Washington, NH, and the Belknap Mill in Franklin, NH. These include research papers and other articles about the history of both, correspondence with authors, pamphlets and brochures for celebrations and exhibitions. Some of these have been separated from the collection and placed in ephemera (Cog Railway brochures, for example), maps (several of Aiken property on Webster Lake), or audio-visual collection (video cassettes of lectures about the Cog Railway and Belknap Mill).
