Scope and Content:
The Dunster Family Papers consist of seventy-three documents arranged into six folders, according to family member. The collection is arranged chronologically and ranges from 1814-1864, but there is a gap in the record from 1827-1860. The documents are primarily letters written by Jason, Samuel, and Edward Dunster; however, there are also receipts for Samuel Dunster and one invitation for Edward Dunster. Correspondence written by others is also present. Much of the material concerns Samuel's business and Edward's work as a surgeon during the Civil War. There are some letters from Jason about his work as a soldier during the War of 1812. The collection is rich in information pertaining to the family and life in New England, New York, and Washington, D.C.
