- Letter from Charles L. Brigham at Mount Pleasant Hospital in Washington, DC, to his father, dated August 16, 1864. In the letter, Charles tells his father "Two years ago to day I was mustered into the U.S. Service for three years." He also states he is frustrated who the commanders his regiment has had, as the captain during the Battle of the Crater, in which he was wounded, was drunk at the time. He is also displeased with the treatment at the hospital, comparing the rations to those he received on the front lines. However, he does acknowledge the "sanitary ladies" at the hospital have kept him alive.
