Letter from John Farmer in Amherst, NH, to Clarissa Farmer, in Billerica, MA, dated October 15, 1820. Farmer writes that he has lately been unwell and had missed church the past couple of weeks as a result. He also says that he hopes to hear more from his Billerica friends as they have been remiss in contacting him. He then goes on to describe a sickness in Merrimack, NH, which resulted in the deaths of all the children in one family. He says his sister, Mary, remains unwell and that he hopes to find a place for her at the Asylum for the Insane in Charlestown. John Farmer hopes that Clarissa's husband has recovered from his depression and that the rest of her family is well. In a post script, he writes that the sickness in Merrimack continues and that it is influenza and lung fever.
