Scope and Content:
The Bartlett Family of Deering, NH, Papers primarily record the financial affairs of this extended family of farmers in the Deering, NH, and Newbury, MA, area. Because several generations used the books, the material ranges over almost two centuries, from 1714 to 1893, though the majority of materials are from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The papers cover five generations of Bartletts, including Daniel Bartlett (1682-1756), Daniel Bartlett (1705-1786), John Bartlett (1733-1798), Solomon Bartlett (1764-1840), and George Bartlett (1809-1885). The accounts include business matters of buying and selling goods and services, but also noted are births of children, dowries, and an estate inventory of 1797. There are also legal papers such as deeds and an apprenticeship indenture of 1800. Also included is an 1890 Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary printed pamphlet for a Warner, NH, couple, Mr. and Mrs. Parker Bartlett. See finding aid for an item level description.
