- Scope and Content:
- Letter from Sarah Low at the Armory Square Hospital in Washington, DC, to her mother, dated February 29, 1864. The letter appears to be four pages long and attached to a second letter, perhaps from Low to her aunt, which begins on page five. In the letter, Low recalls visiting the quarters of the company on guard and meeting the contrabands. She goes on to tell of an African American woman who had her sons and five daughters sold in the South and her praise of Lincoln. She goes on to discuss the soldiers, whom they are teaching. Low details a trip she took with the Spragues, Captain Haryard, Miss Lowell, and Mr. Hall. She notes which outfit she wore to the party, those in attendance, who did and did not dance, and their sleeping arrangements. The letter continues with their visit to the Corps Hospital, the regiments, and their return trip.
